THE ARTIST

The miracle of birth has always been fascinating me. Every time I am left in awe and wondering, and to be in the incredible position to witness God’s grace, is an incredible privilege to me. 

I love meeting new people! Every person has a story: little things that make them who they are, big things that make them who they don’t want to be, and everything in between tells their story. It is this that allows me to take photos that reflect the emotions underneath the events I photograph.
I believe that every lesson I learn is of use, and so it is with my accountancy experience – the skills come in handy when it comes to balancing my own books! The jump from accountant to “Sam Schroder, birth photography” was largely motivated by family. The two things that fuel me are my relationships with God, and my family. I wanted more time out of the office to spend with my children, so I chose a path where I could set my own schedule, not knowing that birth photography will be my first love. Not knowing that this will require a schedule all on it’s own.
As much as the field of photography found me, so did birth photography. I always knew I had to take pictures and once I started, I knew I had to be in a hospital. It was as if God just whispered it into my soul. When my sister fell pregnant, I did my very first fresh 48 session, without even realising what it was. After that, I was hooked.

Once all is said and done, I enjoy a beautiful sunset with a cup of steaming coffee, reflecting on the fact that it’s my job to be witness to so many of life’s sweetest moments.
