BIRTH | CALEB GREEN | PRETORIA DOULA

“In the birthing process of life, amid the contractions of challenge and the labor pains of growth, we discover our true strength. As a doula guides a mother through the intensity of childbirth, so too must we navigate our journey, trusting that within the struggle, resilience blooms into triumph.” – Unknown

Every birth story is unique, and Nomcebo Green’s journey into motherhood is no exception. On the 11th of November 2022, Nomcebo began experiencing contractions, a sensation unfamiliar to her due to the induction of her first labor, which ultimately led to a C-section. What followed was a remarkable tale of resilience and patience. In her own words, Nomcebo recounts the events that unfolded during the birth of her baby boy, Caleb, a story filled with twists, turns, and the triumph of a positive birthing experience.

“My Birth Story: A Triumph of Resilience and Support

Every birth story is a special adventure, and mine began on November 11, 2022, with the onset of contractions. Unlike my first labor, which led to induction and a subsequent C-section, this time around, I was determined to embrace the beauty of natural childbirth.

Navigating the Early Stages

As the contractions intensified on that November evening, my husband and I made our way to the hospital, with the memory of my previous C-section looming in my mind. I contacted Sam, my doula, informing her of our journey but reassuring her that her presence could wait until morning, confident that it was still the early stages of labor.

Upon reaching the hospital and confirming the contractions, I was admitted. The night passed with the contractions subsiding, allowing me some much-needed rest. Sam arrived the next morning, and together we engaged in exercises to rekindle the labor process.

A Choice for Positive Birth

Complications arose when the attending doctor suggested a C-section, unwilling to support a VBAC. Determined for a positive birthing experience, I chose to wait for my doctor’s opinion, arriving later that evening. The option to labor through the night with a C-section as Plan B set the tone for a night of anticipation and hope.

Sam departed, expecting a slow progression, only for the situation to intensify around 10 pm, leading to strong contractions. The decision for a positive birthing experience took precedence, leading me to endure the pain with the support of pain relief measures.

The Moment of Triumph

Midnight marked the official start of labor, swiftly moving me into the labor room and a soothing bath. The urgency increased, prompting a call to Sam. Her arrival brought much-needed support, guiding me through each painful contraction.

From bath to bed, the need to push became undeniable. A swift transition led to confirmation of full dilation, and within moments, I delivered my baby boy in the early hours of November 13th. The overwhelming joy and relief highlighted the success of a natural birthing experience.

I express my deepest gratitude to Sam, whose unwavering support transformed a potentially daunting experience into a beautiful and empowering memory.

My birth journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the importance of patience, and the invaluable support of a doula like Sam. To all expecting mothers, may this story inspire and empower you as you embark on your unique birthing journeys”

Racing Towards Miracles: The Journey to Leroux Rein’s Birth

It was incredible to whisper courage into your ears and see you take leaps moments later towards our freedom. You had many holes in your body, but I tried to hold your hand through this time and be there as much as possible, so that you wouldn’t go through it alone. Some holes in your body, some in mine. Daddy and I took turns to cover the day shift as well as the night shift.
